Have you heard the hubbub about men’s shorts getting… shorter?
It’s true—but no sweat. You won’t have to dress like Borat to stay in style this summer. We’re really only talking about 1-2 inches difference, which means shorts are landing just above your kneecap. This length is clean, polished and flattering to all body types—a welcome change from the “are they pants or shorts?” trends of the past. The question is: Which ones are best?
Here are the top four types of shorts we recommend.
#1: Broken-In Chino Shorts
The ultimate in versatility, comfort and casual polish. These sturdy shorts can be dressed up and down, and look great with just about any shoe.

#2: Plaid or Madras Shorts
Patterns add fun and interest to your summer wardrobe. We like the clean, slim lines of these shorts by Ted Baker.

Pick your plaid... you have options!
#3: Linen Shorts
A cool summer classic, linen breathes well and hangs nicely. The best part? You never need to iron—the wrinkled texture is part of its charm. (Fun fact: Linen can hold up to 20 times its weight in moisture before it feels damp!)
#4: Seersucker Shorts
Known for its “puckered” texture, seersucker is lightweight, comfortable and sturdy enough to hold up to fun summer activities.

Must NOT Have Shorts
A word of caution about some other trends you may see this summer: If you encounter any of the below, run. And don’t look back.
- Zip-off shorts of any kind
- Denim shorts. Just because they’re trending now doesn’t mean they’re good.
Note: Lightweight chambray is an exception. These are a classic, classy bet.
