Have you Tailored Your Suit? (You need to. Here’s why.)

Now this is a well-tailored suit.

(Leave it to George.) Once again, George Clooney demonstrates how an immaculately fitting suit can knock the socks off any audience — even when “dressed down” as he so coolly manages to do here. Dress that suit up with a nice shirt and tie, and we’re knocking off some serious lederhosen.

Why is tailoring so important when buying a suit?

Unlike quality shirts, which can sometimes offer a near-perfect fit without alteration, suits have with sharper lines and heavier materials, and are sold to fit the framework of a man’s physique. The final step is to have it tailored for a perfect fit. Skip the tailoring and you’re walking around in a half-finished project, which simply looks sloppy and wastes your investment.

If you magically stumble upon a suit that fits perfectly without any tailoring, you can:

  • Pat yourself on the back and recognize you are one of exactly 3.4 billion men.
  • Get a second opinion. (Are you sure it fits well — or just “well enough”? Big difference.)

Here’s a breakdown of why George’s tailoring knocks his look out of the ballpark:

We’re not suggesting every man can buy a suit like George Clooney, but with the right tailor, every man can have a suit that fits just as well.

Take Away:
Buying a quality suit that fits the framework of your physique well is Step 1. Having it tailored to fit your body is Step 2. Now your investment is complete, and you’re ready to knock our socks off.

As the old saying** goes: “A dog is man’s best friend. His second-best friend is a good tailor.”

Finally, we’ll leave you with some pictures of lederhosen for inspiration. Now grab that half-finished suit and go call your tailor. And happy Monday, everyone.
